Arts for Dementia

Arts for Dementia is an amazing small UK charity that hits far above its weight, that I have been privileged to be involved with since 2015, first as Treasurer and then until 2024 as Chair.  As the headline on their website says:

"At Arts for Dementia we use the power of the arts to inspire people living with dementia to get creative, connect, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun.  Our free workshops aim to challenge, boost confidence and wellbeing through a variety of art forms from visual arts, drama, sculpture, dance and more"

In essence Arts for Dementia helps people who have received an often devastating diagnosis of dementia to be happy, live more normal and better lives in their own homes and communities for longer.  They do this by providing stimulating creative workshops in all conceivable arts forms including drawing and painting, printing, handicrafts, singing, music, dancing, theatre and many others.

Founder Veronica Franklin Gould helped change attitudes to dementia and influenced government and NHS policy, including playing a part in the movement to the recognise social prescribing in the NHS, as an alternative to pharmacological treatment of many conditions, including dementia.
